Project Overview

Dhwanix is an IoT-based noise pollution monitoring system designed for sound-sensitive environments like hospitals and schools. It measures ambient decibel levels in real-time using a calibrated sound sensor connected to an ESP32, triggers alerts when levels exceed defined thresholds, and logs data for historical noise trend analysis.

Development Process

Challenges

Accurately distinguishing transient noise spikes from sustained noise violations, and calibrating the sensor for different environmental acoustic profiles.

Solutions

Implemented a moving-average algorithm on the ESP32 firmware to filter transient spikes, with configurable threshold levels and an MQTT pipeline for remote monitoring.

Results & Impact

Deployed as a working prototype demonstrating real-time noise monitoring with alert capabilities for quiet-zone enforcement in educational and medical environments.

Key Features

Real-time decibel level measurement via sound sensor
Configurable threshold-based alert system
I2C LCD display for on-site noise level readout
Buzzer and LED feedback for threshold violations
Wi-Fi data logging for trend analysis
Moving-average filtering to ignore transient spikes
